annieisms:

Today is my birthday, and this is a photo of me looking very delighted at being presented with ice cream (yay my favorite)!
Teresa sneakily organized a surprise birthday dinner for me last Friday night at Crispo that was equal parts delicious and heaps of fun. Thanks Rahul, for catching this shot, and thanks Twu for being such a wonderful friend. I was caught very off-guard for this surprise! :)
I am so fortunate and grateful for the people in my life. Thanks all, for the birthday wishes. <3

Happy 21st ;) birthday to my BFF, Annie! Doesn’t it feel good to be legal?
Crispo made for an excellent group dinner spot - we were able to make an eight-person reservation the morning of. From your basic salads and pastas to unique dishes like bone marrow, caramelized brussels sprouts, and risotto balls, their menu has something for everyone. Despite the incredible variety (thank goodness for Foursquare tips to guide our way), the things they do well, they do really, really well. We also split several desserts - my favorite being the zeppole - deep-fried doughnuts with chocolate sauce. So heavenly!

Miso salmon, broccoli stirfry - Sunday night family dinner at the Superlounge!

Miso salmon, broccoli stirfry - Sunday night family dinner at the Superlounge!

Watch out, waistline: There’s a new buttery roll in town. We spotted this little new lobster roll spot in our neighborhood on the way home last night (and have subsequently eaten here twice). A generous helping of lobster on a soft potato bun - plus a side of lobster bisque? Don’t mind if I do. The summery, Hamptons-inspired decor helps you forget it’s 20 degrees out. Get ‘em to go, buy a six-pack and crank up that space heater for a perfect July-in-January lunch.

Add this to the list of random crap the Docs team owns (breadmaker, light saber, kegerator, Sorting Hat): Remote-controlled helium filled floating fish.

The fabulous Garance Dore stopped by Google NYC to chat - and to give us a little much-needed sartorial advice.
When asked about the one thing she’s interested/excited about in world of fashion blogging, she called out Tumblr! (And then proceeded to compare scrolling down her Tumblr dashboard to being drunk.)

Getting some beers at Lillie’s* with my favorite boys after a walking tour around Union Square.
Nailing resolution #6, and twice at that: Try one new thing/place in NYC a week.
*Check in on Foursquare/Yelp for a free pint of Lillie’s seasonal beer!

In 2011, my friend Peter Su quit his venture capital job to pursue music full-time. For a guy who uploaded his first song to YouTube just a couple of months ago, he’s already doing some awesome things. Here’s his first full-length multi-track video - an acoustic cover of Avicii’s “Fade into Darkness”

He wrote our group of friends: “I’m pretty sure I first heard this song with all y’all. I have a distinct memory in the cabin in Yosemite. We had all finally woken up at like 8 am and I was groggy as balls, but then I saw Austin dancing with his hand in the air and he looked genuinely really happy. I remember thinking ‘damn, this is pretty sick music, and that riff is so catchy.’”

That sleepy morning was the start to one of my favorite days of last year - the day we climbed Half Dome back in September. I love that that tiny moment was the inspiration for this video.

Peter reminds me of a favorite quote of mine: “Some people follow their dreams. Others hunt them down and beat them mercilessly into submission.” I’m convinced guy is going to make it big one day. If you dig the Avicii cover - please share, reblog, and subscribe to him on YouTube. And if you’re interested in following his musical journey - check out his Tumblr at petersu.tumblr.com.

Dreary weather for our depart from Bequia. Farewell, paradise!

Dreary weather for our depart from Bequia. Farewell, paradise!

I had brought a sparkly black and gold dress Milly dress for NYE, but as we discovered earlier in the week at Frangipani bar - our group attracts a little too much attention as it is.
Instead, we left our sequined dresses hanging up and opted for comfy casual: I went with this bright DVF dress and the girls inadvertently matched in patterned red and orange. Try as we might to find an excuse to wear our heels and wedges this trip, no occasion called for them in the least. We all slipped on sandals before heading out, which we were thankful for later as we kicked them off into the sand while partying in the streets.
Now I have to find a reason to wear my planned NYE dress. It might just have to wait for one of next year’s holiday parties (major #firstworldproblems - I know).
